Avant-Gardening
Avant-Gardening is an arts and environment project aimed at engaging all sectors of the community with environmental and sustainability issues through art, gardening and food. Young and old alike will come together to unleash their creativity in thought-provoking but fun workshops and activities. Avant-Gardening aims to solicit the community's creative responses to issues such as global warming, recycling and bio-diversity through an ongoing and organically evolving programme of arts which will give a voice to the participants and involve them in cutting-edge arts projects and activities. Avant-Gardening brings fun and creativity into the city's urban green spaces and encourages participants to reconsider the local environment and their interaction with it.
The artists we work with are experienced practitioners of socially-engaged collaborative arts and are selected for both the innovation of their practice and their commitment to broadening access to the arts.

The Peel Precinct Garden Club
is a project that has been running in the heart of South Kilburn since Jan 2009. It is an arts and environment initiative set up by Avant-Gardener, Polly Brannan to encourage the local community of South Kilburn to get involved and learn about making our local environment more green! So far The Peel Precinct Garden Club has been running gardening workshops at the YELLOW CUBE on Peel Precinct, visiting local gardening enthusiasts from the local area, running arts workshops, helping out South Kilburn Partnership at the South Kilburn Clean up day in March, visiting other local community gardens and initiatives and also the club has been working once a week at local school St Mary’s Primary! Polly has been working with the school creating their very own gardening and arts club called the Nature Warriors Club this club uses artistic processes to think about the environment and how we can make our local areas greener!
The Nature Warriors Club has been invited to hold an exhibition of all their hard work at the Peel Precinct on the YELLOW CUBE! They have been planting their very own seedlings and bulbs in and around the outside area of the school as well as growing their very own food including tomatoes, herbs and salads! The pupils have also been creating their very own super hero characters and costumes!

Mobile Porch at Canary Wharf
As part of the London Festival of Architecture, Avant-Gardening joined forces with public works for a three day showcase in Canary Wharf. Passers by, shoppers, commuters and workers were asked to share their gardening tips and stories, to plant a pot plant, to smile for the camera and contribute to our on-site publication Green on the Move.

The Mobile Porch is a mobile mini-architecture designed for roaming the public sphere made by publicworks. This project is a collaboration between public works and Avant-Gardening. For more information please visit the Mobile Porch page
